Forgotten Simple Techniques

Today I’ve decided to do a post on the Forgotten Simple Techniques.

It’s something that has been mulling around in my mind for a wee while now and recently I ended up running a class on exactly this!
The ladies had a blast and really enjoyed trying out different techniques and creating simple but very effective projects with the techniques.

Baby Wipes technique

We started with this idea first using the World Map stamp and some fun bright colours (Gorgeous Grape, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Tahitian Tide & Misty Moonlight) in drops on a folded wet wipe that we had put on a clear block.  Then we grabbed our stamp and pressed in onto the inked wet wipe until the stamp was covered in colour and stamped in onto our basic white cardstock.  We had a card base of Misty Moonlight and a 2nd layer of Daffodil Delight and used the Incolor Bakers Twine and come Glossy Dots to finish.

From that we started thinking about other stamps we could use and do the same technique with and decided the Waves of Inspiration Stamp would be perfect using all the blue reinkers (Balmy Blue, Tahitian Tide, Starry Sky, Misty Moonlight & Night of Navy).  This one we had a card base of Night of Navy and a 2nd layer of the retired Waves of the Ocean Designer Series Paper.  The wave then felt a bit lost so I added a Balmy Blue layer under the stamped image, tied the incolor bakers twine around and used Dimensionals to adhere is on and some retired Balmy blue gems.

Coloured Embossed Lines Technique

For this one we stamped the lady from the In the Moment stamp set in VersaMark and heat set it with white embossing powder, then used the Watercolour Pencils to colour the lines.  I used night of navy, gorgeous grape, real red,  basic grey, granny apple green, early espresso and cajun craze pencils.   To finish that card we used Fresh Freesia Card base, then basic white and then the new Countryside blossoms embossing folder in Boho Blue colour for the background, ribbon and embellishments.  We stamped the words in Memento and fussy cut out.

Stamping with Markers & Clear Blocks technique

This was a great way to showcase both the 2022-2024 and the 2023-2025 Incolors.
We used a very clean “H” Block and then with the brush end of the markers scribbled across the block in about 1″ segments until all five colours were on the block and then using our spritzer (filled with water) spritzed the block and stamped straight onto the paper.  We let it dry for a few seconds and then using the Hedgehog Stamps for the tree/flower and the bird and words and finished off with a couple of the Brass Butterflies.
I kept this card super simple and clean with Thick Basic White card, a layer of Sweet Sorbet (or Copper Clay).

Which one of the above is your favourite?  I still can’t decide.  I like them both for different reasons.

Black Ice Technique

Was our last technique.  This was the one that had everyone really itching to try.
It’s such a cool idea and I just love how it looks with the Legendary Ride motorbike (pg88), the metal plate embossing folder background and the simple Happy Birthday words from Waves of Inspiration stamp set.
Each one turned out so different due to the different Silver Foil Speciality Sheets (online only 156457) and it also changed depending on the background colour I used.
I started with simple black

but quickly moved to try the new incolors of Moody Mauve,

Wild Wheat (with Gold fold)

and even tried Lemon Lime Twist.

I could’ve kept on going as this technique was my absolute favourite and when changing the backgrounds it really changed the look of all the cards.

I hope you enjoyed checking out these techniques as my ladies did.  They actually enjoyed it so much they asked if I could do another couple classes this year, so keep an eye out on my Upcoming Events pages so you can join in next time for the Forgotten Simple Techniques.
